Ayurveda in Sri Lanka Day 1

My mission this year for myself is “treating myself well, making myself happy” to make everyone around me happy. No one wants to have  a massage from tired and low-energy person! Recently I had worked so hard and tired… so, I decided to go to Sri Lanka to have Ayurveda detox treatment 1 week…by myself!

 

I flew with Qatar Airways, it was my first time to fly with them and it was amazing flight! Food, entertainment and cabin attendant, everything was so great! I cried a lot with three movies… Emotional detox has already started.

 

This time I chose this accommodation.

This big resort is alongside the beach, sometimes you can hear birds sing, sound of waves… just perfect to stay without nothing to do…

Less than 1 minute walk to the beach!

 

I was told to have a consultation with a doctor tomorrow so I ate a lot without any food restriction. Yay!

Everything was so fresh! and basically not spicy and mild  but you can add some sambal to make it spicier.

After lunch, I attended a cooking demonstration session and the chef showed us how to cook fish curry and dal curry in Ayurvedic way. Basically any oil is not used to make Ayurvedic curry. The chef explained some spices and ingredients and started cooling. Basically he put dal or fish, a little bit of onion and spices and coconut milk in the end and stirred. So easy and it took just 5 minutes but it was so tasty and fresh! I now understand why Ayurvedic food is so light and easy for stomach.

 

The secret of a beauty ① Chewing well

I have read these books by Aoi Kinoshita, registered dietitian in Japan.

I knew what we eat and how to eat the most important for our health and beauty but I haven’t taken it seriously and have tried to do exercises and use many beauty products instead.

But now is the time to take it seriously and start to change my eating habit even though I don’t like cooking…

So I decided to start slowly, not dramatically.

①Chewing well

This sounds difficult for me. I eat so fast without chewing enough, especially when I eat by myself, my mind goes somewhere to think something, definitely not focus on eating and food.

I will chew at least 30 times each bite.

 

[Benefit of chewing well]

– A histamine is secreted by mastication and a histamine helps to break down visceral fat and also prevent to overeat to send a signal to satiety center.

– A saliva includes the hormone which has the benefit of anti-aging.

– Good to prevent a double chin.

Tongue scraping is a very old Ayurvedic self-care ritual where you clean your tongue by removing bacteria, toxins, viruses, fungus and build-up by scraping them off in the morning and night. Tongue scrapers come in many materials and shapes, but preferably they should be curved, not too sharp and made from stainless steel, copper, tin, brass and they can even be made out of gold, silver or platinum.

Use the tongue scraper two times a day ; just before brushing your teeth first thing in the morning and just before going to bed. First cleanse the scraper with clean water, hold the scraper with both hands, putting  light pressure on it, scraping the surface of your tongue in long stroke. Repeat this 3-8 times until all the coating has been removed. Finish by rinsing your mouth and the tongue scraper with clean water.
